A national habit
It is estimated that in the Scandinavian country called Finland, there are about 1.5 million saunas for a population of just five million people. Tradition dictates that heat is produced by a wood oven.
When bathing, treated as a true ritual of health and pleasure, they usually pat the back and neck gently with a bundle of eucalyptus branches to stimulate blood circulation and cleanse the skin. In winter, the most courageous take part in dives in open holes in frozen lakes.
